The Real Heatwave

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

It was always a matter of when, rather than if.

Once again, this Summer, the Nixor Community undergoes a series of fortunate and unfortunate events leading to the inevitable collapse in the sanity of the majority of the population. Internal conflicts, parental pressure, upcoming deadlines, peer pressure, existing in the post covid era, and economic downturn play a role in the rising inflation across the country and thus the rising tension in Nixor college; the question arises, who will snap first?

Will it be the newly admitted A0s? Former Nixor students? Nixor staff members? Students deeply indulged in the corporate world? Board of directors? The admin? Who's next?

From the executives fainting due to the emotional torment and the stress of everyday life to students fussing about doomsday, also known as, the Result Day; to students worrying about their lack of productivity and lethargy this summer, it seems as if the student body of Nixor college is seething in its speculations of “what if’s” and “when’s.”

Perplexed by the idea of entering the year where students finally go through the excruciating process of deciding on what they wish to do in life. Our current A2s struggle with time management and their doubts and insecurities attached to the impending decisions they’ll have to make in the upcoming weeks. As days turn into weeks and weeks into months, June bleeds into July, then August and the absurdity of the anticipation only grows. The growing anxiety within the student body essentially shows what the batch of 2023 has had to endure due to covid because of which they were forced to attend online classes in the initial months of their AS year. Although Nixor has managed to establish a good system of online education, the students couldn’t help but fall into the dreary depths of their nightmares and dreams.

Throughout particular classes including but not limited to Physics, Business Studies, Accounting, English Literature and Biology. With the growing anticipation of the future and the heightened preposterousness of what we experienced in the recent past, students worry that they have a lot to take into consideration before moving on to university applications. I’d like to quote the very respected author Lemony Snicket here who once said, ‘If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives,” and I agree. Let’s go headfirst into the path we’re scared to take.

Meanwhile, in other news, our innocent A0s, casual with their conduct and under the watchful eyes of the staff, enter the foreign world of Nixor, waiting for the corridors to get used to their shy voices and cautious footsteps. Waiting for the foreignness to evade, the A0s endure the loud chants of our entities and houses and perhaps even complain about the traffic rules and walk up the stairs when the sign points downwards, their little acts of rebellion paint the perfect picture of how the new batch is supposed to act like and sums them up in a single sentence of, ‘Just Nixor things, you know?’

Moving on to the world of Corporate, with entities managing to carry their understaffed team while others are at their prime, the rooms on campus buzz with the happenings of the Corporate world. The widespread competition of the competitive environment, apart from being extremely loud and disrupting the workflow at times, manage to evaporate the tension that may infiltrate the executives working tirelessly and devotedly for their respective entities. As the executives fight and struggle, pulling all-nighters to meet deadlines, the Board smooth and bitter with their sweet rejection and disapproval of certain projects successfully trample innocent hopes and momentary excitements. Frustrations heighten, anger seeps out of the writhing and exhausted young executives, new ideas infiltrate their minds, hearts and souls and the cycle repeats. That being said, I think determination and passion running through your veins is the only thing that’ll allow an entity to reach the top of the pyramid and truly succeed in the world of Nixor Corporate. Remember, winners, are only ordinary people with extraordinary determination.

All in all, as the real heatwave strikes Nixor college, the students stand their ground trying not to merely succumb to the growing despair of the inside and the outside world. At this point, I truly believe sanity is out of the equation. Nothing good ever comes out of being truly sane. Let’s embrace the chaos, live life on the edge, take risks and throw a little caution to the wind. You’re a part of Nixor college after all and as we all know, The Nixor community is not a very sane one, is it?
