Is The First Impression Really The Last?

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

Honestly speaking, taking that first step in Nixor seemed like a nightmare and the past week had gone by in pleas to not attend Summer Corporate for fear of that feeling of being rejected and unwanted. Taking that first step though, the feeling of being proven wrong immediately hit me. Contrary to expectations, the faces of the people were warm and welcoming. People accepted and welcomed easily and soon the Summer Corporate events felt like the most anticipated days.

Many events captivated me, but the House of Dreams took the prize. Its main highlight was, unfortunately, the slides. Slides had been a big fear factor in recent years and when peer pressure finally got to me, the ladder I told myself was okay to climb, in response kept telling me I was making the wrong decision and then finally lying down on the slide did I think that maybe I had been a bit too hasty. As the push came, I felt like I was flying but then instantly felt like I was drowning those warm hands held me and got me up as if saying, take the first steps and we’ll help you take the rest.

Slowly yet surely, Summer Corporate had helped me accomplish all I wanted to do. From acting in Deep Waters, to overcoming that one weakness of making friends, to trying out and unexpectedly liking pottery, to finding a new hobby, paper craft. Summer Corporate had not only managed to help me grow as a student but also as a person.

Although I got to admit, there were some bad things about the Corporate world too. It could be that the campus favourite, peach iced tea was always out of stock, especially when desperately needed. Or, it could also be that there were...lesser events than expected. But that’s just my personal opinion but overall it was very fun and those who didn’t attend it missed out on life big time!
